New Approach For Coach Learning

When one starts to look at coaching from the aspect of creating and maintaining a Learning Environment and building into one’s players the core skills and techniques, what suddenly becomes abundantly clear is that a new approach is required for coach learning.

For the old approach of coaching coaches by only teaching the skills, techniques and tactics is no longer enough, because suddenly, someone who wants to coach, or has to take on the role, the old information is no longer enough.

Because suddenly, one has to begin learning about people, their behaviours, their motivations, how the brain learns and a myriad of other aspects as well, for not everybody works in Education, Law Enforcement or runs a Business where one learns these types of aspects, so a new approach to coaching is needed to begin teaching these things.

Like anything else, one can get lost in the fog of too much information, or we can begin to focus on a few key points and then let the more abundant details follow on from that, in other words, teach the principles, then allow the coaches to fill in their own details, for someone who wants to be a good coach will keep expanding their own information.

Therefore, a new approach to coaching could look like this by beginning with the basic concept by explaining that effective coaching is about:

The creation and maintaining of a Learning Environment

Building the core skills and technique into their players

And by doing that, it sets up what the big picture of what coaching is and then begin teaching people things like:

What a Learning Environment looks like

The importance of the first meeting

Framing and the 6 weeks reinforcement

Growth Mindset

How skill is built in the brain

The importance of explaining things in a visual way

The importance of asking questions and activating curiosity

How to find and uncover the core and key skills and techniques

Begin understanding about 2 types of people, Learners & Improvers and Needy People

People’s Motivation, Archetypes and interacting with others

When to use the aspects and approach of Respect, Understanding, Assertiveness and Information

The new way of coaching is more of a guidance way of coaching and to begin learning about people as well, and ultimately the coach still has the control, though it is done in a more different way.

There is a few more things that could be written down and though every coach will have their own way of doing things, though by understanding the bigger picture and a few principles to work from, the information they gather after that, they will have a framework they can build upon.

A new understanding always opens up and requires a new approach
