The art of communicating is in getting one’s message across succinctly, using as few words as possible, though creating a picture in people’s mind that they easily remember.
And the best coaches are masters at getting their message across succinctly
With a couple of Bob Paisley sayings being:
“There’s not much distance between a pat on the back and a kick up the backside”
“If you find yourself in front of the goal and don’t know what to do with the ball, put it in the back of the net and we’ll talk about it later”
And one of the things I was taught early on is that you can literally only tell people 3 things at half time, any more than that and you’re just wasting your time, so choose what you say wisely.
In other words, you got to start becoming good at making up quotes, for example:
“He’s got great potential, but it’s a pity he keeps leaving it at home”
Sometimes by saying so little, one can say so much
