Fundamental to all coaching is in the laying of the foundation to whatever one does, and yet as mentioned many times before, the thing that is missed from our coaching education is the fundamental foundational aspect to everything that we do.
And as usual, for ease of reference, another poster has been created to aid in the visual aspect of the learning process.
Of course, once one starts to understand the fundamental aspects of the foundation of coaching, some questions begin springing to mind, such as:
How do I go about creating, then maintaining a Learning Environment?
How do I cultivate a Growth Mindset in the players?
How do I activate someones Self-Education Abilities?
What are the Core Skills and Techniques of the sport played?
And of course those questions continue out into the development aspects of the players, such as:
What are the key skills, techniques and tactics of the sport played?
What is each players individual X-Factor skill or skills that can be enhanced and developed?
And for those not sure, a core skill is a skill that is a foundation skill and a key skill are skills that make one both efficient and effective on the playing field
So many questions, though:
Questions are at the heart and foundation of any coaching experience and are fundamental to the coaching process
The easy and lazy way to coach is that one could give you the answers, or the nearest correct answer, but a spark of curiosity and finding and uncovering the answer is way more beneficial and satisfying when one can uncover the answer themselves.
Because ultimately, that is the coaching process, guiding others to uncover the information for themselves, then the discoveries become more personal for the one uncovering them.
Curiosity – Ian Leslie
For when one asks the above questions, a subtle, though major shift happens in the coaching process, and one goes from:
What skills do I have to teach, or I believe need to be taught, to becoming, how do I create and maintain an environment where learning and self-discovery occurs and how do I facilitate this process
