When you begin looking into the fluoridation debate it is interesting to note that Fluoride is not classed as a medicine or medication, and to treat the disease that is tooth decay with a non-medical substance would bring fluoridation of the water supplies into the realm of an alternative treatment.
I also find it interesting that the politicians and the mainstream medical establishment would turn to a non-medical substance for treating a disease and that they would actively promote and encourage such an alternative treatment as using fluoride to treat, which on the main for the majority of the population, is a disease that is non-life threating.
When referring to the medical council’s documentation for complementary and alternative treatment, otherwise known as CAM:
It states that; when complementary and alternative medicines have benefits for the patient and have minimal risks, and patients have made an informed choice and given their informed consent, the medical council does not oppose their use.
Again the term informed consent comes to the fore, and the document goes onto say that; you must never exploit patients or misrepresent any forms of treatment or health service in order to obtain consent plus when it comes to informed consent, it must be adequality documented in the medical record.
And patients should have any treatment explained to them, including benefits, risks, alternatives, and costs, and have any questions answered honestly, incidentally, I have not received any answers to the questions I have posed.
I would also encourage everyone to go and read the Medical Councils Document of Information, choice of treatment and informed consent:
For in the very first paragraph of this document is says:
Trust is a vital element in the doctor patient-doctor relationship and for trust to exist, patients and doctors must believe that the other party is honest and willing to provide all necessary information that may influence the treatment or advice.
For everything about fluoridation of the water supplies to treat the disease that tooth decay has been classified as, goes against the literature and documentation put out by the Medical Council of New Zealand and I’m sure other countries will have similar documentation that is available to read from their own medical councils as well.
Because fluoride is not classed as a medicine, for it to be used in the treatment of tooth decay automatically makes it an alternative treatment
