As I’m reading through books, I mark passages and sentences that catch my eye by drawing a box around them.
While going through Napoleons Hills book – Think and Grow Rich, I came across a passage that was buried near the back of the book in the chapter “The Sixth Sense” and explains why having a desire is important and it has nothing to do with making money or winning trophies.
The passage is this:
The starting point of all achievement is desire. The finishing point is that brand of knowledge which leads to understanding – understanding of self, understanding of others, understanding of the laws of nature, recognition and understanding of happiness.
It is why Napoleon Hill put desire at the start of his book and teachings as the most important thing.
The following is how I’ve put it into my own words.
Most people’s lack of understanding comes through a lack of desire to achieve things.
If you have a strong enough desire to achieve things, you will develop an understanding.
Once you develop a true understanding you will rarely fail.
For it is not in reaching the target that is the success, it is in developing the understanding of yourself, others, the laws of nature and happiness which will enable you to repeat the success.
That’s it, for until you develop an understanding you won’t be able to truly succeed.
If you want to succeed, Start with a Desire – Finish with an Understanding
