Anybody who coaches to any degree, will go on a coaches journey of self-discovery, for like the players, we’re all here to learn, and those that are here only to tell others what to do, are the ones who ultimately end up struggling the most, especially when the conditions change.
For as I’ve gone on the coaches journey, though I still harbour the same desire to achieve and what I want to achieve, the process I’ve used to accomplish has changed as I’ve learnt to adapt the information I’m given and find myself as I mould it to the way that I coach that suits the style that I use.
And through my coaches journey I’ve always freely given away information, hence my website and blog, for as one learns as one goes along on their coaches journey, there are no secrets to sport, and two people can get the same information and you’ll get two different results.
And the longer I go on this coaches journey, the simpler I’m making things with my basis for coaching revolving around three things, with them being:
Create a learning environment
Activate the players ability for self-education
Build into my players the core skills, techniques and tactics
The interesting thing is, is that when ones begins to understand things like the Mandelbrot Set and Fractals, one realises that one doesn’t have to make things complicated for out of simplicity appears what seems to be complexity, whereas in reality, it’s merely a set of repeating patterns.
The Mandelbrot Set
And with only a few simple rules, an infinite number of possibilities begins to emerge, for change a player here, and change a player there, and how a team plays changes, even though they are still trying to achieve the same things.
Because every player has a different way of thinking and processing incoming information, has a different skill set and a way of executing those skills, so even though players follow the same rule set, the micro patterns within the team changes, though the larger patterns remain the same.
So basically, my own coaching journey has been the understanding of a few simple rules, which creates the complexity that others see

A coaches journey always begins with the first step, and the direction one takes is the direction one goes, and the longer one coaches, the more one sees the patterns and principles in action and the infinite number of variables at play within those patterns and principles
